Multi-Ethnic Symposium – January 27-28, 2014

Multi-Ethnic Symposium

Concordia Seminary will host the Multi-Ethnic Symposium on Jan. 27-28, 2014.

This year’s theme focuses on ethnic communities as “Communities of Hope.” In this symposium, we will explore how ethnic communities confess that hope through diverse cultural expressions, as we celebrate both the differences among us and the unity of the faith that we share.

In this symposium, we will engage the critical intersection of theology and culture. Then we will hear from those ethnic communities that remain a minority among us. What has the expression of our Lutheran theology and practice brought to these different communities of hope, and what gifts come to our Lutheran unity from the diversity of cultures? And finally, we will learn from one another on how to work toward a truly multi-ethnic LCMS.

The Center for Hispanic Studies (CHS) will present its 9th Annual Lecture in Hispanic/Latino Theology and Missions at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. The lecture will continue the Multi-Ethnic Symposium’s theme of community, highlighting a Hispanic/Latino Lutheran contribution to this area of study. Dr. Giacomo Cassesse, Lutheran pastor, theologian, and published author, returns as our lecturer for a second time. He will speak on the topic “The Sense of Community among Hispanics/Latinos and the Future of the Church in the USA.” The lecture will be in English and take place at Concordia Seminary’s Clara and Spencer Werner Auditorium.
