Special Symposium Lecture in Hispanic Studies

2014 Theological SymposiumAs part of the 25th Annual Theological Symposium at Concordia Seminary this year, the Center for Hispanic Studies will sponsor a special lecture on Tuesday night (September 23) that will feature Daisy L. Machado, PhD. Dr. Machado will speak on “Missio Dei and The Latino Reality: Rethinking The Goal and Purpose of Missions.”

Christians are being challenged to rethink and to grapple with what we mean by the terms “missions” and “missio dei.” In this lecture, Dr. Machado will explore what this increasingly popular notion of “missions” might entail today and will address the question: What does “missions” look like as the church faces the Latino reality in the United States in the 21st century?

Daisy MachadoDaisy Machado serves as professor of the history of American Christianity at Union Theological Seminary, NYC. She teaches on borderlands issues with a focus on the U.S./Mexico border and is the author of Borders and Margins: Hispanic Disciples in the Southwest, 1888-1942.

Thanks, Yvette. It is unlikely that the lecture will be live streamed. But it should be posted as a video after the fact via the Seminary’s iTunes U site (itunes.csl.edu) or here at concordiatheology.org.
