“This Joyful Eastertide”

A Concordia Seminary, St. Louis choir, led by Director of Music Arts Dr. James F. Marriott on the organ, sings “This Joyful Eastertide” (Lutheran Service Book 482) in April 2021 from the balcony of the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. The Seminary’s hymn recordings celebrate the rich intersection of music and theology in our Lutheran heritage. “This Joyful Eastertide” proclaims the profound hope found in the resurrection of our Savior. The refrain captures this well: “Had Christ, who once was slain, not burst his three day prison, our faith had been in vain; but now has Christ arisen!” The festival trumpets on the Casavant organ emphasize this joyful proclamation: Christ is risen! We invite you to meditate on the text with us or even to sing along as you listen!
