At its last meeting, the faculty of Concordia Seminary voted unanimously to publish this statement in Concordia Journal and on Concordia Theology.
In recent months, our colleague Rev. Dr. James Voelz has been subjected to criticism, online and in print, criticism we view as inaccurate, uncharitable, and unhelpful. In particular, Dr. Voelz has been falsely characterized as undermining confidence in the authority and complete truthfulness of the divine Word. Therefore, the faculty of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, wishes to publicly declare our support of and appreciation for Dr. Voelz and for his long record of biblically and confessionally faithful teaching and writing. We give thanks to God for the wisdom He has revealed to us through Jim and for what Jim has taught about faithful and humble biblical interpretation in his more than fifty years of service to our church.
